The Tutor Who Changed My English Forever– Blog #005

My name is Er. Devender Kumar, and I am here to share my short story – a story of struggle, determination, and transformation. This is not just my story but one that I believe resonates with countless learners who have dared to dream of mastering a skill that once felt impossible. My journey of learning English has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and at the heart of it lies a name that changed everything for me: Mr. Aman Behl, the guiding force behind the YouTube channel “YET: Your English Tutor.”

The Struggle Begins:

Despite having completed my schooling from an English-medium institution, English language always seemed alien to me. I could read English and even memorize English words, but I was not able to express my thoughts fluently. That felt like an unattainable dream. My school and college days were filled with struggles, moments where I doubted myself, and countless failed attempts to truly understand the finer nuances of English.

Even after college, I began reading novels in English, hoping to bridge the gap, but the unfamiliar vocabulary and the inability to grasp the essence of the text left me frustrated. I turned to books on grammar and vocabulary, yet nothing brought the clarity or confidence I so desperately needed.

The Turning Point: YET – Your English Tutor

In 2021, during one of my lowest points as an aspirant preparing for state government competitive exams, I decided to confide in my friend, Er. Chandresh Dhiman, who himself was a bank exams aspirant. Little did I know that conversation would change my life. Chandresh suggested I explore a YouTube channel called “YET: Your English Tutor” by Mr. Aman Behl who is a central government employee at present.

Skeptical yet hopeful, I watched my first video. The moment Aman Sir began explaining the day’s editorial, I was spellbound. His teaching style was not only clear but also deeply engaging. It felt as though he was not just teaching English; he was speaking directly to the hearts of learners like me, offering hope, guidance, and a path forward.

That day, I made a promise to myself: I would rebuild my understanding of English from the ground up, and Aman Sir would be my tutor.

A Journey of Transformation:

I started with the “Complete Grammar for All Competitive Exams” playlist. Each video became a steppingstone toward clarity. I created my own notes, meticulously jotting down every concept Aman Sir taught. Slowly but surely, the fog that surrounded English grammar began to lift.

After completing the grammar playlist, I moved on to live editorial classes, where Aman Sir’s dynamic explanations and interactive sessions pushed me to apply what I had learned. His questions during live sessions, the discussions in the comment section, and the summaries he encouraged us to write became invaluable exercises in my journey.

Every time I received a ❤️ from the “YET: Your English Tutor” channel, it felt like a badge of honor—a small yet powerful validation of my efforts. These gestures motivated me to keep going, even on days when self-doubt crept in.

A small heart, a big motivation!

The Tools That Shaped My Skills:

To complement Aman Sir’s teachings, I turned to books like Wren and Martin’s High School English Grammar, Norman Lewis’ Word Power Made Easy, and practice materials like Arihant and Mirror of Common Errors. For the first time in my life, I was not just memorizing; I was understanding and applying the concepts of English grammar.

Among all the lessons, the Sentence Breaking Technique (SBT) stood out as a game-changer. It transformed the way I analyzed sentences, making even the most complex structures feel approachable. This technique remains my favourite, and even today, I revisit these classes whenever time permits.

Beyond Learning: A Habit for Life

As my English skills improved, so did my confidence. Writing in English became my way of expressing myself. Whether replying to WhatsApp messages or drafting thoughts, I chose English not out of obligation but out of love for the language.

Some people questioned my choice, suggesting I stick to Hindi or accusing me of succumbing to Western influence. But to me, English was never about abandoning my roots—it was about finding a universal medium to connect, express, and grow.

Gratitude to a Tutor Who Changed It All:

If it were not for Aman Sir, my English concepts might have remained incomplete. His dedication to teaching, his approachable style, and his unwavering belief in his students turned a daunting journey into a fulfilling one. I owe him not just my improved English skills but also the confidence to dream bigger and communicate better.

Even today, despite a hectic schedule, I cherish the moments I spend watching his videos or engaging with fellow learners on the Official YET Telegram group. Helping others in the group reminds me of where I started and keeps me grounded in gratitude.

For Aspiring Learners:

To anyone struggling with English, here is my advice:

1. Start with Aman Sir’s grammar playlist and make your own notes.

2. Practice regularly and apply concepts to real-life scenarios.

3. Engage with live classes, participate in discussions, and don’t shy away from making mistakes.

4. Supplement your learning with good books like Wren and Martin or Norman Lewis.

5. Most importantly, stay consistent and believe in yourself.
